The High School season is finally upon us, and I have already been able to see multiple top teams go at it. Last Friday I went out to Archbishop Carroll for a great event run by Arize. I was able to catch a very entertaining young Theodore Roosevelt team and then an absolute thriller between Woodrow Wilson and Rock Creek Christian.

Theodore Roosevelt
Roosevelt features a dynamic duo of 2020’s Darius Miles and Marcus Dockery. Miles contributed to the DCSAA runner-up team last year as a freshman, but is now seeing an increased role as one of Roosevelt’s top guys. He has flourished in that role so far. Miles is a matchup nightmare at 6’5” because he can score with ease, and also has great vision and a tight handle. The other half of this duo is a Bishop Ireton transfer who is a very well rounded player. Dockery will make you pay from deep if you give him any space, but the silky smooth lefty is also very crafty around the rim. The point guard has been on a tear the past couple of months, also capturing the MVP award at the highly touted Pangos camp. These two are extremely talented and have great chemistry while on the floor together, look for Roosevelt to make noise for the next couple of years.

Woodrow Wilson
The Tigers were the highest ranked public school in the Washington Post’s rankings (number three) and it’s not hard to see why. They return their core of Ayinde Hikim, Carlos Dunn and Ricky Lindo which led the Tigers to be extremely competitive within the DMV. But this years squad adds a pair of O’Connell transfers in Jay Heath and Dimingus Stevens, who I think will put this program over the top. Wilson has one of the most talented rosters in the area, and with their chemistry getting better each game, they are definitely a team you wouldn’t want to see on your schedule.

Rock Creek Christian
After being down double digits just three minutes into the game, it looked like Rock Creek was down and out. But, this team showed a lot of resilience and heart by storming back and cutting the lead to one just before halftime. Rhode Island commit Jermaine Harris absolutely stole the show, he is a very intriguing prospect as he scores with ease at all three levels and rebounds the ball with the best of them. I know teams hate to embrace moral victories, especially when it was a very winnable game. But Rock Creek became a much better team on Friday night.

The DMV is filled with tons of talent, and this was a great start to what should be an amazing high school season. Stay tuned for more articles regarding high school hoops.
