Day one of the McDonald’s All American Games–
Powerade Jamfest recap: Live from Chicago

This year’s Jamfest was a remarkable one in many ways. First, the players were insanely talented in every contest they entered (dunk, 3 point, etc.) Second, this was the first time a sporting event was held at the Chicago Theatre. A half court was built on top of the stage, that truly created a mesmerizing scene for all spectators.

Legends and stars standouts:
An event where a team compromised of one boy and one girl current All American and one McDAAG alum, boy or girl. Team would have 90 seconds to make a layup, 10 footer, 27 foot jumper and a half court shot.

Kyle Guy- The UVA commit showed off his limitless range by draining the 27 foot jumper effortlessly on one of his first tries.

Maggie Lucas- The 2010 alum came back to McDAAG and drained the 27 footer on just her second try, she also canned the half court shot for her team.

Jay Williams- After being brave and volunteering for the 27 footer, he horrifically air balled the first attempt. But, like it was 1999 (year Williams was an McDAA) he bounced back strong and
drained the deep three for his team.

3 point contest standouts:

Malik Monk- The Kentucky commit got real hot on his money ball rack in the final round propelling him to a winning score of 21.

Kyle Guy- Guy has one of the purest strokes I have seen from a high schooler since Austin Rivers, he missed all of the shots on his final rack that left him just a couple of shots from tying Monk.

Amber Martinez- To all basketball fans, even if you have zero interest in women’s basketball, you must remember this name. Martinez showed out in the girls 3 point contest, running away with the title.

Terrence Ferguson- Even though Ferguson didn’t make it to the finals, I see a lot of great things in his jump shot. His release is picture perfect and he gets great elevation on his jumper. Keep in mind, last summer Ferguson won the Elite 24 dunk contest in Brooklyn.

Slam Dunk contest standouts:

Josh Jackson- Jackson didn’t always complete his dunks, but when he did they were straight epic. Jackson’s dunk where he jumped over a girl McDAA who is 6’9″, but did the VC honey dip and swung around the rim was the dunk of the night until Frank Jackson’s final dunk.

Kyle Guy- What can’t he do? But seriously, Guy was one of the best jumpers in this contest. What made him most entertaining was his creativity and personality, remember his name, he is going to do big things at UVA.

Frank Jackson- Last but not least, the champion. Jackson’s dunks had an unreal combination of difficulty, creativity and power. His final dunk, which can be seen here(https://twitter.com/thecauldron/status/714630570450419712) will go down as one of the greatest dunks in McDAAG history.

Stay tuned for more analysis and interviews after tomorrow’s practice and media day.
