Rawle Alkins (class of 2016)
The 15th overall ranked player in the class of 2016 (according to ESPN) embodies every aspect of the best of Brooklyn street ball. The fiesty scorer lives to go one-on-one with the best on both sides of the ball. I never really watched Alkins play until the Elite 24 in Brooklyn this summer, but as soon as I saw him, I instantly fell in love with his game. The way he went one-on-one with Josh Jackson the ENTIRE game was what I liked most. Everyone knows Jackson is regarded as the best defender, but Alkins said I’m not worried, so come guard me and completely held his own, on both sides of the ball. Alkins didn’t just perform in the Elite 24 exhibition game, he arguably boosted his stock more than anyone this spring and summer while putting on a show in the Adidas gauntlet championship game. He had 34 points, including 5 3s. He also held 5-star guard Kobi Simmons to 2 of 13 from the field. Brooklyn has definitely produced their star well and he definitely reps his city through his game. He will be playing at Word of God Christian Academy in North Carolina this season, the alma mater of Wizards point guard John Wall (who I happen to have run into in Foot Locker at my mall last week, more on Wall later). As of now, Alkins has a top 10 that includes Kansas, Louisville, Kentucky, North Carolina, Indiana, St.Johns, NC state, Maryland, UNLV and last but not least, Texas. I can’t wait to see how Alkins progresses into an all-around basketball player, he is one of my favorite prospects in this class.
