Impact players from #2 Montverde (FL) against #4 Huntington Prep (WV)
This week Montverde and Huntington prep, the number 2 and 4 ranked high schools in the country played for the number one ranking in high school basketball. The game resulted in a win for Montverde, but was a showcase of young talent that basketball fans can appreciate. Below is an analysis of the players who were difference makers in the game. Keep an eye on them, they could be the next NBA superstar.
Curtis Jones- Huntington Prep
Jones, a four-star guard signed to Indiana University, did the bulk of the scoring for Huntington. He hit many deep threes at the times his team needed it most, attacked the basket and set up his teammates for open shots. He should be the right guy to fill a very big hole at point guard for the Hoosiers, with Yogi Ferrell graduating.
Bruno Fernando- Montverde
A 3-star prospect (according to ESPN100) in the 2016 class played a big part in the win for the Eagles. Fernando was unstoppable on the boards resulting in many powerful putback dunks. Fernando will bring energy and heart to wherever he plays college ball next season.
Silvio De Sousa- Montverde
De Sousa is the 2nd overall prospect in the sophomore class (according to ESPN25). De Sousa is a true point forward at 6’8" with filthy post moves, ball handling and athleticism. Look for De Sousa to be an impact player at the next level in a couple of years.
Miles Bridges- Huntington Prep
The five-star small forward currently signed to play for Tom Izzo at Michigan State, carried Huntington Prep down low. Although he is only listed at 6’7" Bridges often found himself playing center for this small Huntington team. Even though he was not always playing his true position he raised his upside by putting up a double double against much taller and stronger opposition.
Rowan “RJ” Barrett Jr.- Montverde
Barrett is future150.com’s number one rated freshman in the country. Barrett has a freakishly huge upside, he is 6’6" with crazy athleticism and a wide wingspan which makes him a solid defender. He is also nearly unstoppable in the open floor, keep an eye on Barrett throughout the next couple of years.
