Paul VI was one of the best teams in the nation a couple of years ago, and Coach Farello hopes this is their year again. They play in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC), one of the most competitive basketball conferences in the country. This year’s team has a ton of young talent and strong senior leadership in Pitt commit Aaron Thompson–keep an eye on them because they could be destined to make a big run in the WCAC.

Players to watch
Brandon Slater (Class of 2018)
Slater is a very intriguing prospect just by his frame and length, but when he touches the ball your eyes widen even more. He is a fast wing, with a handle and always stayed under control with the ball. He can also shoot the deep ball very consistently.

Fun Fact: Slater doesn’t listen to music before games, he prefers to have fun (dancing) because he is a “goofball.”

Jeremy Roach (Class of 2020)
Throughout the season Paul VI will need Roach’s playmaking ability. He is a special talent and everyone in the gym knows it. During the open gym workout, senior Aaron Thompson was pushing him the entire time and he constantly responded with plays that almost made me fall out of my chair. Roach is probably the purest shooter on the team and has the ability to slash and finish. Jeremy Roach is definitely a name to remember.

Fun fact: Roach’s favorite team to use in NBA2k is the Portland Trail Blazers

Aaron Thompson (Class of 2017)
Like I mentioned before, the team relies on Thompson for leadership. And he doesn’t let them down one bit. He was pushing each and every player to get them better, and set the tone in the gym. Thompson is also more than a leader, the Panthers will rely on him to score the ball and handle the rock.

Fun fact: Thompson listens to rappers Young Thug and Shy Glizzy before games.

If Paul VI can connect all of the puzzle pieces together, they can be very special. The team shares a unique chemistry and it’s still very early in the season. This bond seems natural since Coach Farello brings kids into his program who are both talented and have strong character. They are physical, fast and play a very up-tempo game that suits their roster well.

I want to thank Coach Farello and his staff for having me out there and showing me a lot of love! You have a special program and it was an unbelievable experience! Good luck!
